KCC is a revolving credit limit for crop production — you draw what you need for seed, fertiliser and labour, repay after the harvest sells, and pay interest only on what you actually used. With prompt repayment and the interest subvention applied, the effective rate is far below any other credit available to a farm household.

It also now extends to animal husbandry and fisheries. If you are borrowing at a moneylender rate for input costs, this is the first thing to fix.

Kisan Credit Card — common questions

How is my KCC limit decided?

From the scale of finance for your crop in your district, multiplied by the area you cultivate, plus an allowance for post-harvest and household needs and a component for maintaining farm assets. It is revised upward each year over the card's term.

What happens if I do not repay on time?

You lose the interest subvention and the prompt-repayment incentive, so the rate jumps to the bank's normal lending rate for the whole period. Repaying before the due date and redrawing immediately is the standard way farmers keep the concessional rate.

Can a tenant farmer get a KCC?

Yes. Tenant farmers, oral lessees and sharecroppers are eligible, usually through a Joint Liability Group where individual land documents are not available.
